On the Third Day of Vocal Health My True Love Gave to Me....Good Nutrition

'Tis the season for indulgence. And, unfortunately, sometimes that means the consequences that go along with that.

Let me start by saying I am not the diet police. I LOVE food. I love to cook, and then eat it. I love to try new things. Probably my absolute favorite hobby is cooking, especially trying new recipes. As I'm typing this right now, there is a pot of taco sauce simmering on my stove that I'll be trying with dinner tonight. I think food is not only fuel, but it is joy and love. It is colorful and celebratory. I LOVE food! But, as with all good things, there is a point when a good thing becomes detrimental.

Knowing your own body and your own limits is key. Things like reflux, habitual overindulgence, and neglecting good food choices can effect our bodies, and thus our singing voices. So this Christmas season (and beyond), take a look at the choices you have before you and choose the things that will fuel your voice best. For me, that means I'm drinking more water, eating an excellent breakfast daily, and enjoying my favorite things in a wise way. That also means that I am looking at things like sleep patterns and exercise, too, but more about that later.

This is a time of celebration, and food is definitely a part of that. And while I love French silk pie as much as the next person, I also know that there is nutritional food that is also really stinking delicious that I can add to my plate to fuel my body and the festive mood. My challenge to you today is to choose a nutritious addition to a meal. Maybe have a piece of fruit with breakfast, or a salad as lunch, or a new veggie for dinner.
